Thanksgiving Greetings from the “Golden Gate City!”

2015_11_25_NAM_Thanksgiving1My name is Rebecca Knudsen-Lum and I’ve worked in Information Services for LSG Sky Chefs in San Francisco, California for the past 10 years, since June 2005. I am responsible for providing my coworkers with the essential operational data, anything from flight schedules to what needs to be cooked. Some days are busier than others, but with the growth of SFO, there is never a dull moment.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November in the USA. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln set aside the last Thursday of November as a national Day of Thanksgiving. It is a modern North American tradition, providing us the opportunity to give thanks and celebrate this day with a feast!

For many US Americans, Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday because it encourages them to break bread with family members; in fact, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, is the busiest travel day of the year in our industry here in North America.

Thanksgiving TurkeyThanksgiving is generally not a busy day at SFO. Although we still cater domestic and international flights on Thanksgiving Day, it is usually fairly quiet. While some employees are on holiday, those who are working are still able to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner.

Executive Chef Rudy Sabugo prepares a savory, traditional Thanksgiving dinner for us employees at work, as well as crew members working flights. It is always a delicious meal, complete with a roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and of course, the Thanksgiving favorite, pumpkin pie!

SFI Team at Thanksgiving

One thing I am thankful for this year is working for a management team that puts its employees first. I can honestly say I always feel appreciated, especially during the holidays. This Thanksgiving, the SFO management staff will be providing every employee with a turkey to take home and cook with our families!

Our managers are always sure to wish us a happy Thanksgiving and thank us for our hard work, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day.
