LSG Sky Chefs rings in the New Year with Thai Airways contract
The new deal signals an excellent start to the New Year for LSG Sky Chefs’ London-Heathrow Customer Service Centre just weeks after it won another significant contract from Singapore Airlines.
Michael Whitfield, LSG Sky Chefs’ Director of Sales and Services for UK and Eire, said: “We managed to secure the Thai Airways contract in a competitive tender process over many months with our highly specialised in-house produced cuisine being a key element to our success. We will be providing a designated Thai chef along with superb hot kitchen facilities to ensure the airline’s passengers receive the very best authentic cuisine.”
The long-term contract will commence on March 1, 2007, with LSG Sky Chefs supplying a full catering service to two daily long-haul flights to Bangkok involving nearly 330,000 meals each year for economy, business and first-class passengers. The contract will also involve LSG Sky Chefs providing VIP services for a number of flights each year for the Thai Royal Family.
LSG Sky Chefs already services Thai Airways from its other Customer Service Centres around the world but the London-Heathrow contract is the first between the two companies in the UK market. In November LSG Sky Chefs’ London-Heathrow operation secured a contract to service three daily long-haul flights for Singapore Airlines involving supplying 500,000 meals annually.
Tony Finlayson-Green, General Manager of LSG Sky Chefs’ London-Heathrow operation, said: “These are both extremely important contracts for the company to win and help to consolidate the position of our London-Heathrow operation. We are in an immensely competitive market place but have demonstrated that we continue to offer all our customers high quality in-flight service solutions.”
Singapore Airlines’ service was launched in record time by LSG Sky Chefs within six days of the contract being formally signed and Mr Finlayson-Green added: “The speed and efficiency of our handling of the Singapore launch is viewed as an incredible achievement and has given added comfort to the award and forthcoming transition of the Thai Airways business.”
