LSG Sky Chefs opens new facility in Kunming, China

Neu-Isenburg, Germany – LSG Sky Chefs’ joint venture facility at the Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG), China, began operations in parallel with the opening of this new airport on June 28. LSG Sky Chefs entered into the joint venture partnership at the old Kunming airport in 2008. The construction of the new catering unit started in June 2009. The joint venture in KMG, known as Yunnan Eastern Air Catering Co., Ltd, has an estimated market share of 60 percent. The majority shareholder, China Eastern Air Catering Investment Group, is also the company’s partner in Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Xian (XIY).

The new CSC currently provides catering services for Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Dragonair, Hainan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. The facility covers about 16,000 square meters and has a daily production capacity of up to 50,000 meals.

“I would like to sincerely thank our joint venture partner, China Eastern Air Catering Investment Group, as well as everyone onsite who has led and contributed to establishing our presence at Kunming’s new airport,” said HK Cheung, RCOO Asia/Pacific. “The dedicated teamwork involved enabled the smooth transfer from the old and start up of our new CSC.”
