LSG Sky Chefs invests at new Hyderabad, India Airport
20-year License Agreement for Flight Catering
LSG Sky Chefs has been selected as one of two concessionaires providing Flight Catering Services at Hyderabad’s new International Airport “Shamshabad”. The contract with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), which covers a period of 20 years, was signed recently.
Hyderabad is the sixth-largest city in India and has a population in excess of six million. The city is home to major enterprises in the emerging information technology, pharmaceutical and biotechnical industries. The existing airport, located within the city limits, does not have sufficient land left for expansion to deal with the expected doubling of passenger volumes (currently 4 million p.a.) over the next seven years. The initial construction phase of the new airport is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2008.
LSG Sky Chefs has already been operating a customer service center at the existing Hyderabad airport since October 2005. The new catering facility will have an initial capacity of 7,500 meals per day, which will be expanded as traffic increases.
“We are proud that we have now also been selected as one of two partners at this airport, just a few weeks after we were able to sign a long-term agreement for the new Bangalore airport,” commented HK Cheung, COO LSG Sky Chefs Asia/Pacific region. “This clearly validates our strategy to establish a significant presence in the fast-growing and promising Indian market.”
