LSG Sky Chefs and Mercedes-Benz LKW Test New Catering Truck

Neu-Isenburg – LSG Sky Chefs and Mercedes-Benz Lkw have launched a pilot project to develop a catering truck based on the Mercedes-Benz Econic that runs on NGT (Natural Gas Technology). The aim is to reduce emissions in a significant and sustainable manner. The loading and off-loading processes are also being analyzed regarding potential vehicle optimizations.

The LSG Sky Chefs fleet has more than 4,000 catering trucks at 200 locations around the globe. “With this pilot project, we want to compile an economic and ecological requirements profile for a future catering vehicle. In cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Lkw, we are testing how a truck with an alternative engine, such as the Econic NGT, can meet our requirements on the airport apron,” said Jochen Müller, COO of LSG Sky Chefs.

“We are happy to be LSG Sky Chefs’ cooperation partner. The Econic NGT is a well-proven vehicle concept with fewer emissions than one with a conventional engine,” said Thomas Witzel, Head of Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Trucks Germany.

The test catering truck, which is fueled with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), has been part of the LSG Sky Chefs fleet at Frankfurt airport since the end of November. The first results of the pilot project are expected by the second half of 2013.
