Continuation of Cooperation between Deutsche Bahn and LSG Sky Chefs

Neu-Isenburg – Deutsche Bahn (DB), the national German railway company, and LSG Sky Chefs will continue their collaboration with the introduction of the new Intercity 2, presumably as of mid-December. LSG Sky Chefs will service their modern, double-decker long-distance trains with a new gastronomic concept and take over the management of the service crew.

Initially, the Intercity 2 will replace part of the current Intercity trains in Germany. Over the coming years, it will expand with more direct connections between the 50-largest German cities and the country’s regions. From December 2015 to March 2016, 27 new double-decker trains will take to the tracks. As part of the deal, we will assume the service management of the three Intercity lines connecting Leipzig, Hanover, Bremen, Cologne, Munster and Kassel, which carry an estimated 8.8 million passengers per year.

LSG Sky Chefs will be responsible for serving passengers directly at their seats, which includes offering freshly baked goods, sweet and salty snacks, as well as hot and cold drinks. Crew management will be implemented using an external partner, who provides specifically selected and trained service personnel.

LSG Sky Chefs has been partnering with DB since the summer of 2013 when the company began catering Alleo trains, a joint venture company between DB and the French national railway company (SNCF) on their four daily trains from Frankfurt am Main to Paris.

“We are extremely pleased about this renewed collaboration with Deutsche Bahn,” said our CEO Erdmann Rauer. “Germany is one of the largest rail-travel markets in Europe and this success will considerably strengthen our position in this segment and strongly support our growth plans.”
