April #perspectives: A Sandwich Legend reinterpreted
This month’s dish is all about authenticity, with our Philly steak sandwich set in a rustic backdrop straight from the forest.
Much like the Cape Malay Beef Bobotie in March, the origins of the Philly cheesesteak is unclear. However, the one thing that’s free of debate is the ingredients of a great Philly sandwich.
First comes the signature bread: the hoagie roll. Next, the steak that has been sliced into thin pieces for its iconic look. Finally, it’s topped with jalapeños, onions and melted cheese and it’s ready to be served.
So while these ingredients might not sound like anything outstanding, Head of Global Culinary Excellence Jörg Hofmann has plated the sandwich on a backdrop of slate, giving it an authentic, rustic ambience emblematic of its roots.
